the venue of our dreams!

Thursday, January 28th, 2010

Over the weekend, Eric & I travelled to Lake Rabun and found the perfect venue for our wedding. We are thrilled to be getting married in the North GA Mountains. So thrilled, in fact, that we moved the date up by about seven months and are now planning an October wedding! (yep, of THIS year!)

Here are some photos of the landscape, it’s a private estate that we’ve rented for the weekend and will serve as the venue for the rehearsal dinner, ceremony and reception. We love that there is so much raw land to work with…and even in the cold, rainy weather it was still beautiful.

Stay tuned to see how we transform this estate into the most gorgeous fall wedding anyone’s ever seen!

I am a salvage artist. As long as I can remember, I’ve collected items that I found thrown away with a determination to find new uses for them. This little window pane, for example, I spotted on the side of the road in Atlanta and held onto for a few years knowing that I’d eventually have a place to display it.

A little bit of TLC, $2 worth of chain link from Lowes and, voila!  Here she is in her new home!

Help for Haiti

Thursday, January 21st, 2010

By now, we’ve all seen the photos of  devastation in Haiti. The images of pain and suffering are almost too much to bear and have left me feeling humbled and helpless….however, there are many ways to help!

My friend Davia & I decided to take up a collection around the office of non-perishable food, first aid items, bottled water, and clothing…little did we know that in less than a week’s time, we’d collect a massive carload of donations!!

We just returned to the office from dropping them off at the Fisherman Church in Norcross. They are still accepting donations. If you’d like to contribute, contact me at emily@eclairecreations.com and I’ll give you their info.

You can also make a $10 contribution to the Red Cross relief effort by texting “haiti” to 90999. It’s quick and easy and the $10 is simply added to your phone bill. For more information, go to www.redcross.org

Here’s my sisters impromptu office makeover. Way to go, Anna!

Before: messy storage space under desk = eye sore

After: chic curtain (a.k.a. shortened shower curtain) and simple tension rod hides mess!

I’m officially planning a wedding!

Saturday, January 16th, 2010

Eric & I are getting hitched! Quickly after getting engaged, I became completely obsessed with wedding blogs…there are so many!! My absolute favorite is www.oncewed.com. It is packed with all sorts of loveliness and filled with ideas for planning a do-it-yourself wedding. I found the following inspiration on OnceWed.
(I love love love these images!!)

We’re going for a rustic, backyard, vintage, bar-b-que, DIY kind of thing…I’ll make the invitations, save-the-dates, decorations, and flowers …thank goodness for my Crafty Chicks!!!

We’re heading to Athens this weekend to check out some venues that our dear friends Hoke & Katie have spotted for us. Fingers crossed we find our perfect spot!

Crafty Chicks Night – January

Terrariums seem to be everywhere these days; on blogs, in artist markets and for sale in trendy boutiques. What better way to start the New Year than by creating and caring for your very own living ecosystem!

We used some recycled materials as well as materials collected from our own back yards. A big ‘thank you’ to Nancy for putting her expertise and green thumb to use by cultivating many of the plants!!
